In cases where the specific corrugator used to produce the combined board is unknown or cannot be measured an alternate method is to determine the flute dimensions from samples of corrugated fiberboard. Flute profile data below show how data in this case are entered. The take-up-factor on the

corrugator is a function of linerboard caliper and medium caliper. However, for the alternate method an average take-up-factor can be specified.

The geometry of the alternate method would theoretically result if the corrugator roll and pressure roll had infinite diameters. Interference between single face and medium components is specified as a percentage of the flute height. The alternate method for specifying the flute profile reduces the accuracy of the combined board geometry because it holds the take-up-factor fixed.
